My name is Crys and I have over 8 years building complex web apps, mostly for B2B SAAS. About half of that time, I’ve worked in Data on helping users model data and create data visualizations.

I’m really excited about the role open working on the Product Analytics group and wanted to highlight why I think I’m a good fit for the role.

MY PROCESS

The Process of Design Squiggle by Damien Newman • (Animation by me)

My creative process is best illustrated by Damien Newman’s ‘Design Squiggle’.

In order to cut through noise and uncertainty, I deconstruct the problem at hand through activities such as User Research, System Analysis, Stakeholder Interviews, and Competitive review.

I will also use sketches, wireframes, and prototypes to help discover patterns and synthesize research into actionable insights. These artifacts are also helpful in aligning the team and making key decisions.

Clarity emerges as the team narrows into a final design in order to test with customers or stakeholders.

HIGHLIGHT REEL

At Glean, I led 0-1 for a tool that enabled data analysts to standardize metrics across their organization.

I’ve worked on design systems both big and small. I love nerding out on components and patterns.

✔️ As a design manager, I coached a direct report on leading the redesign of “Style Closet” - Betterement’s design system.

I’ve also worked on tooling for creating complex visualizations and metrics, built a drag n’ drop dashboard builder, a mobile app prototype for future product direction, and many more features and products. I love drawing icons and have been known to make trading cards for my team.

I believe that Gitlab is uniquely positioned to solve the hard analytics problems that have yet to be solved. Enabling developers to implement analytics into their workflows from the gate will unlock downstream analytics adoption across various teams.
